Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today inaugurated the rice distribution program at a cost of Tk 10kg between the poor families under 'Food Advantage Program'.
Under the slogan 'Sheikh Hasina's Bangladesh, hunger will disappear', 50 lakh poor families of the country will get 30 kg rice every month for 10 rupees per kg.
Every year March and April and September, October, November - families will be able to get under the program for five months.
District Food Controller's Office said, in Kurigram district, a total of 25,27,79 families will get benefit from this program through food-friendly cards.
This card has already been issued to eight thousand 21 poor families of Chilmari. 17 thousand 722 in Kurigram Sadar, 24 thousand 20 in Nageshwari, 13,985 in Bhurungamari, 9,298 in Phulbari, 10 thousand 602 in Rajarhat, 24 thousand 208 in Ulipur, 12 thousand 685 in Roumari and 4,767 cards in Rajibpur upazila are under distribution process.
Of the 247 potential dealers in the district for selling rice, 126 have already been appointed.
As a result, the government will have to pay Tk 2,000 crore each year. The government is giving subsidy of 27 taka per kg of rice by paying 10 paisa per kilogram of rice per kilogram to the poor.
Food Minister Quamrul Islam said about the government's food program for poor people - Vannherbal Group Feeding or VGF Card, to give 50 lakh families a rural ration card a few months ago. The Food Minister said on August 27, Duschhra will get rice from 10 rupees from September.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also talked about rural rationing at the inauguration ceremony of the border bank on September 1. He said on that day, "We will introduce this system for the poor, the crippled, disabled people." Those who have this ration card will be able to buy rice at only 10 taka.
To inaugurate this program, the daughter of the nation's father reached Chilmari in Helicopter at around 11am. Security around the arrival of Kurigram was strengthened around his arrival.
